Ignition Block System Remotely Disables Stolen Vehicles According to the FBI, a car is stolen every three seconds; with too many of them ending up in high- speed chases. Car chases are often uncontrollable and put the public, the police and even the thief at risk for injury. Now vehicles equipped with OnStar Ignition Block can be remotely disabled before a chase begins. The new technology connects to the vehicle in between cycles of its ignition and prevents the criminal from being able to start the car. Law enforcement says having this ability will help to eliminate dangerous chases and prevent injury. Every month OnStar works with police to help find approximately 600 stolen vehicles through its imbedded GPS. It also has the ability to slow down a properly equipped vehicle that's already involved in a chase. Produced for General Motors

New CDC Study Shows Technology Improves Crash Outcomes

System Helps Increase Rescue Response Time and Helps Determine Injury Severity The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have released the findings of a two year study of automobile crashes involving vehicles with Automatic Crash Notification systems. The research showed that the systems can in fact improve patient outcomes. The technology, developed by OnStar, transmits exact locations and the characteristics of the crash from the vehicle to emergency personnel. This crucial information helps rescue crews to administer the right type of aid at the scene and provide the trauma center with valuable information as well. The system can also be used to help determine if the occupants need to go to a Level One Trauma Center or if they can get the right care at a typical emergency room. In the last four years over seven million GM cars have been built with this new technology. And since 1996, OnStar has responded to over 100,000 crashes. Source: General Motors

One of the Most Highly Anticipated Vehicle Launches of the Decade Since its dramatic unveiling at the 2006 Detroit Auto Show and its high-profile acting debut in the first "Transformers" movie as Bumblebee, the all-new 2010 Chevy Camaro has been the most anticipated new car in a decade, and it's finally here. For the last year Chevy dealers have been taking deposits on the new Camaro. More than 14,000 people, most of whom haven't even seen the car in person, not to mention taken it for a test drive, will soon be receiving their cars. The design is very faithful to the original concept that inspired Hollywood director Michael Bay to make it the hero of the 2007 summer box-office hit movie and it also acknowledges the Camaro's heritage, particularly the famous 1969 Camaro. The 2010 Camaro's MSRP starts at $22,995 for a 300hp V-6 that gets 29 highway miles to the gallon, with Bluetooth phone and USB connectivity, a Boston Acoustics audio system, OnStar, and XM satellite radio,...

From automobiles to condos, assurance plans are making it easier for consumers to make big purchases in a tough economy. The latest, General Motors' Total Confidence Plan, promises to protect a customer's paycheck, investment, vehicle and family. The new plan protects customers in case of job loss by providing up to $500 a month for payments, for up to nine months. The package also protects the resale value of the car, after half the payments have been made, should it become worth less than the balance of the loan. As an added safety bonus, buyers will also receive one year of OnStar standard and fully backed, 5 year/100,000 mile limited powertrain warranty with roadside assistance and courtesy transportation. Automakers are hoping packages like this one, on top of other incentives like rebates and APR, will bring consumers back into the showroom. National Poison Prevention Week is March 15 - 21, 2009 Each year, more than 2.4 million poison exposures are reported to the nation's poison control centers and nearly two-thirds of those calls involve children. Most poisonings occur when parents or caregivers are not paying attention. It's important to react quickly when a poisoning occurs. The most dangerous potential poisons are medicines, cleaning products, antifreeze, windshield wiper fluid, pesticides, furniture polish, gasoline, kerosene and lamp oil. And with Americans spending more time in their cars commuting and shuttling children to activities, accidental poison exposure in vehicles is a scary possibility. For safety precautions, drivers should always keep the nationwide phone number for Poison Control handy, 800-222-1222. And for OnStar subscribers, the in-vehicle communications service will now route calls about poisonings directly to Poison Control. Once connected the Poison Control specialists will help the ...

It seems like everyone is digging deep into their pockets these days. But, did you know that by cutting corners and making little sacrifices along the way, you can find an extra $1,500 to $2,500 a month? If you don’t put a lot of miles on your car, check with your insurance provider about a discount – some companies will decrease their premiums if you drive fewer miles. Try going on a “restaurant diet” and limit the number of times per week you eat out. This can save you anywhere from $300 to $500 a month. Entertain at home vs. “in town” and save another $200 to $300. You can always "do it yourself," too! Cut your own lawn, clean your own gutters/windows and your own home and you’ll have $200 to $400 more to spend on the necessities. Source: OnStar
