MN government request for public comments on Obamacare
Posted by admin / Under Public Auto Insurance
Find below a state government request for you to provide public comments on the Obamacare "essential health benefits" requirement for individual and small group insurance policies. Note that this list of benefits (health care services), whether you agree or find them objectionable, will be imposed by the State....as allowed by the federal government. The Feds are being gentle now, allowing "flexibility" for States to do as they wish, but that is likely temporary. Once the State has acquiesced to the presumption of federal control, expect the Feds to mandate the health care services they want included, and exclude the services they...

Public employee union defends Denver cop who was fired for driving drunk at 143 mph
Posted by admin / Under Public Auto Insurance
Denver police officer Derrick Curtis Saunders was arrested for speeding and driving under the influence. Before he was pulled over, he was driving at 143 mph in a 55-mph zone. Thats 88 miles an hour more than the speed limit. His blood-alcohol level was 0.089 percent, slightly higher than the 0.08 legal limit. Appropriately, the Denver Police Department dismissed him. (A judge also sentenced him to five days in jail, fined him $300 and ordered him to perform 100 hours of community service.) Now, Saunders would like his job back and the Denver Police Protection Association stands ready to...

Parent twist at Bronx HS (25% of students are pregnant or teen parents...)

A shocking one in four students at a Bronx high school slated for closure is a teen parent or pregnant, The Post has learned. That startling statistic is buried in thousands of pages of documents the city Department of Education submitted to the state earlier this year when it initially sought funds to fix the long-struggling Grace Dodge HS in Belmont. It has since proposed shuttering the school with, critics charge, no regard to the parenting teens.

Union militants threaten Wisconsin teacher

Union militants are threatening and harassing the courageous charter school teacher who is leading the fight to defend Wisconsin's new government-sector Right to Work law. With free legal aid from National Right to Work Foundation attorneys, Kristi Lacroix and two other civil servants filed an amicus brief and a motion to intervene against union lawyers' spurious lawsuit seeking to overturn Wisconsin's monopoly bargaining reforms. WISN-TV in Milwaukee reported that "she has been blistered by negative and vicious emails and phone messages at school and on Facebook, including one suggesting she get protection."

Republicans draw attention to public pension gapsReuters Thu, Dec 8, 2011 WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Republicans in Congress on Thursday sought to shift attention back to public pension shortfalls, with estimates of the total deficit ranging from $600 billion up to $3 trillion. Leaders on a joint congressional committee on the economy are releasing a series of reports on states' struggles to cover the costs of pensions for future retirees. "States are already $3 trillion in the red, a crisis four times larger than the Wall Street bailout," said Sen. Jim DeMint of South Carolina, who released the report with...

Taking on the union freebies (Group suing public employee union)
Posted by admin / Under Public Auto Insurance
In September, my colleague Mark Flatten released an investigative report showing that Phoenix and other Arizona cities spend millions of dollars every year to pay employees to perform union work on city time. Less than three months later, we are going to court on behalf of Phoenix taxpayers to put an end to the practice of union release time. Our case takes on the citys contract with the Phoenix Law Enforcement Association (PLEA), which provides an estimated $900,000 in annual release time for police union work, including lobbying. The provisions take six full-time officers off the streets giving them...
