Report casts doubt on E15 use in cars & trucks {Extra Ethanol in Gasoline}
Posted by admin / Under Ethanol Fuel
Automakers and the oil industry released a report today that casts doubt on the safety of gasoline containing 15 percent ethanol and shows that at least some engines running the fuel suffered damage during recent testing. But ethanol backers and the Obama administration immediately countered that the study was fundamentally flawed, because it used engines with known durability issues and didnt include control group testing of the 10 percent ethanol blend that is now the standard at filling stations nationwide. The dispute is the latest round in a long-running fight over the 15 percent ethanol fuel blend known as E15....

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich told The Daily Caller in a video interview that he is dropping out of the Republican presidential race 'probably about Wednesday' May 2 and endorsing former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. Gingrich, alongside his wife Callista, said the GOP's message in the general election should be, "Can you afford four more years like this? Not complicated. Do you want this much unemployment, this high a gasoline price, this much deficit spending? You have a great president but if you don't want this, you better vote for somebody new."

Hybrid copper-gold nanoparticles convert CO2 (To Hydrocarbons!)
Posted by admin / Under Ethanol Fuel
Copper -- the stuff of pennies and tea kettles -- is also one of the few metals that can turn carbon dioxide into hydrocarbon fuels with relatively little energy. When fashioned into an electrode and stimulated with voltage, copper acts as a strong catalyst, setting off an electrochemical reaction with carbon dioxide that reduces the greenhouse gas to methane or methanol. Various researchers around the world have studied coppers potential as an energy-efficient means of recycling carbon dioxide emissions in powerplants: Instead of being released into the atmosphere, carbon dioxide would be circulated through a copper catalyst and turned into...

Unelected EPA Bureaucrats Approve E15 Ethanol
Posted by admin / Under Ethanol Fuel
Last week, "an unelected group of people" over at the Environmental Protection Agency revised our national energy policy, approving a new gasoline blend with up to 15% ethanol, known as E15, which may be available in pumps this summer. Currently, most gasoline sold in the U.S. is E10, containing a maximum of 10% ethanol. To review the backstory: the last time ethanol was in the news, it seems like its opponents, who come from both the environmental left and free-market right, had won a significant victory. Last summer, "a strong majority of a democratically elected Congress," to use Obama's words...

How A Dumb Law Blocks A Great Way To Fuel America

Steven Sterin thinks he has a better way. As president of the advanced fuels division at Dallas-based chemicals company Celanese, hes supervising construction of two new plantsone in Texas, the other in Chinato make ethanol. But you wont see any vats fermenting corn here. Celanese makes its ethanol by tearing apart and recombining the hydrocarbons found in plentiful natural gas or coal. ..... The problem isnt science. Its Washington. Thanks to the 2007 Renewable Fuel Standard law, gasoline refiners are mandated to blend so much plant-based or renewable ethanol into the gas supply that it prevents Celanese or any other...

DOE: Renewable grant program was a big jobs creator
Posted by admin / Under Ethanol Fuel
A $9 billion Obama administration grant program for renewable energy projects has created tens of thousands of jobs, an Energy Department report out Friday concludes. The report comes just one week after Speaker John Boehner slammed Energy Secretary Steven Chu over the claim and challenged him to provide proof of the jobs creation. The report conducted by DOEs National Renewable Energy Laboratory concludes that the program supported 52,000 to 75,000 construction and installation jobs on average over the three years it was in effect. Between 43,000 to 66,000 of those were indirect jobs in the supply chain (for...
